The Wine Route

Founded by Commender Simon van der Stel in the 17th century, and known as The City of Oaks, Stellenbosch wields an old magic attraction of Cape Dutch style homes and is the centre of South Africa's dynamic wine industry. Travel through spectacular undulating winelands and drop into any one of the many vineyards for a wine tasting. Among 23 private and 5 co-operative cellars, you are certain to find a winemaster only too willing to discuss his traditions and wines. With hundreds of world-wide awards to their credit, these farmers also provide delightful options for fine meals, picnic baskets and vintner's platters to be enjoyed amongst the scenic splendor.
