Cape Attractions

Welcome to Cape Town's Big Six - what the Cape Town people often call their six most impressive attractions.

The Wine Route

Founded by Commender Simon van der Stel in the 17th century, and known as The City of Oaks, Stellenbosch wields an old magic attraction of Cape Dutch style homes and is the centre of South Africa's dynamic wine industry. Travel through spectacular undulating winelands and drop into any one of the many vineyards for a wine tasting. Among 23 private and 5 co-operative cellars, you are certain to find a winemaster only too willing to discuss his traditions and wines. With hundreds of world-wide awards to their credit, these farmers also provide delightful options for fine meals, picnic baskets and vintner's platters to be enjoyed amongst the scenic splendor.

Kirstenbosch Gardens

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is world renowned for the beauty and diversity of the Cape flora including the unique fynbos it displays and for the magnificance of its setting against the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. As well as offering tours of the gardens, this magical Eden also has a Visitor's centre which includes an information desk, the Kirstenbosch gift shop, a Botanical Society bookshop as well as Coffee Shop for refreshments.

The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront

Situated between Robben Island and Table Mountain in the heart of Cape Town's working harbour, the V&A Waterfront has become South Africa's most visited destination. At 249 m above sea level, Cape Point is one of the highest sea cliffs in the world offering numerous scenic walks and trails as well as excellent diving and angling spots. Overlooking the point where the cold Benguela current on the West coast and the warm Agulhas current on the East coast seem to merge, you are invited to breathe the freshest air in the world and marvel at Creation!

Table Mountain

Table Mountain is a sandstone plateau rising up above the Cape Flats. The top is approx. 3 km wide and at its highest point, Maclears Beacon, rises to 1085 m. The steep cliffs and rocky outcrops play home to a number of plants and animals. The mountain is home to approx. 1470 species of plants, - more than the British Isles! Complimenting this vast array of fynbos variety, the panoramatic 360-degree views from the summit are nothing less than spectacular - deservedly world-famous!
